SMART Creative Writing Contest Encourages and Rewards Student Creativity
Students in grades three to eight eligible to win over US$30,000 in SMART products for their classrooms
Calgary, AB --- January 4, 2002 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces the second annual SMART Creative Writing Contest. This contest challenges students in grades three to eight to envision a futuristic tool that allows them to interview anyone, living or dead. The student with the most creative submission in each grade level will be awarded a grand prize of a SMART Board
580 interactive whiteboard with a Floor Stand 570 for his or her school. In total, 12 grand prizes valued at approximately US$2,500 each will be awarded in two rounds of competition.
The story starter sets the stage for the SMART Creative Writing Contest: using a technology tool of their own imagination, students interview any person they choose, living or dead. This tool enables communication across time, distance and language barriers. Stories must include why the student chose that person, a description of the technology used and a transcript of the interview.
First-, second- and third-place winners will be chosen from each grade based on the originality, organization and content of their entries. First- and second-place stories will be published on SMART's Web site. Entries must be submitted by the teacher, and any prizes won will be awarded to the school. The deadline for the first round is February 28, 2002. Winners will be announced within four weeks of the closing of the round.
